Resource Room

The Solomon Schechter Day School and High School of Long Island boast a state of the art Resource Center and Program.

The current program provides a flexible and systematic method that strives to enable success for the individual student with special needs in a dual-curriculum setting. A critical element of our program is to assist the students to become their own advocate and to build their self-esteem.

Presently, we have a staff of five Special Education Teachers, each with their own subspecialties. These specialties include: study skills, organizational strategies, reading comprehension, time management, and content areas, such as math, science and written expression.

In addition, we offer the following services:

  • test preparation for classroom tests
  • push-in program to support and assist the classroom teacher and students
  • consultant teacher services to offer ideas and guidance to general education teachers with regard to the specific needs of our identified students
  • direct intervention to implement district generated IEP Plans
  • tutorial support to reach students who require reinforcement with specific skills or weakness in a particular content area
  • intensive practice in small groups for mandated tests, such as the ELA and Terranovas
  • instruction in organizational strategies, study skills and self-advocacy
  • "demystification" for identified students
  • a quiet location where students can take tests, study or complete academic related work.

An integral part of our program is our vigilant communication with our parent partners. Parents are kept informed of student progress via phone calls, e-mail, and formal evaluations.
