Dear Schechter Parents and Guardians,
Before we all head off for our respective endeavors during Winter Break, you may wish to know that others stay behind to keep the “home fires burning.” Actually, some stay behind to make certain that our physical building stays in shape. Under the watchful eyes of Ed Clementi and Gene Wess, our building is kept in fine shape because of these men. Ed Clementi, our jack of all trades and fix it man, is always around from early to late to lend a hand, clean up a mess, and put in order more than a thing or two. Gene Wess, our Mr. Repair Man, makes certain that painting gets completed, that wiring is properly intact, that heating and air conditioning are working properly, etc. While these gentlemen do this with ease, they also receive a bit of extra help from our Security Guard Jerry Schuster. From early morning until the end of the school day, Jerry Schuster greets each person that steps foot on our campus. He helps each one get to his/her desired destination and does it in a very warm, friendly, and even sometimes funny manner. With a joyful story or joke, Jerry Schuster lets all get their day off on the right foot. So while we are away and while our thoughts may be elsewhere, know that these gentlemen work conscientiously to make certain that our Schechter Home runs smoothly.
Ms. Kathleen Niebling, Ms. Wendy Adelman, and Ms. Denise Spinos, who make our office run smoothly, will also be taking time off. These staff members truly are blessings that make the administrations’, the faculty’s, and the students’ days run smoothly. From the moment one enters the office until one exits these ladies do everything! They answer questions, answer phones, inform students of early and late dismissals, update faculty on schedule changes, keep Schechter families abreast of school news, schedule fields trips, order books, find coverage for absent teachers, and on and on and on. Ms. Niebling additionally makes certain that all incoming paperwork is handled. Ms. Adelman makes certain that our mailings get out. On Mondays Ms. Spinos makes certain that we always have an extra set of helping hands. These ladies truly keep everything in line so that our teachers can do that which they do best – teach. And we thank them for their excellent work. May they have a wonderful break and may you and yours as well have a delightful winter break.
Worthy of Mention
Our SSDS Choir students will be singing at the Installation of Rabbi Charles Klein at the Merrick Jewish Center on February 26, 2008 at 7:30 pm. Rabbi Klein will be installed as the 59th president of the New York Board of Rabbis. We are very proud of our students and congratulate Ms. Elana Stern on preparing our choir to perform for this community event. Our appreciation also extends to Ms. Susan Katz, Admissions Director, and to Ms. Sandi Swerdloff, ES Assistant Principal, for coordinating the activity. We wish Rabbi Klein a hearty mazel tov! Ms. Katz, Mr. Austein, Ms.Goldstein, Ms. Horowitz, Ms. Joselewitz, Ms. Lichter, Ms. Shampan and Dr. Tiegerman continue to be very busy as they engage in the process of doing observations and screenings for new students who may be entering our Schechter Family for 2008-2009. If you know of anyone who is interested in having their child(ren) attend our Schechter, please let us know. We seek to afford them the same excellent educational experience we have provided for your children.
Sunday, March 2nd from 3-5 pm our Kindergarten Families can participate in a Shabbat Fair. This grade level event will bring joy and learning to all attending as “host families” guide others through a “faux Friday night.” With crafts and refreshments, this afternoon promises hands on activities as well as the opportunity to strengthen Schechter family friendships.
Todah Rabbah
This week a “thank you” is extended to our wonderful Art Auction Committee: Ms. Beth Kohler, Ms. Teri Fields, Ms. Jodie Fineman, Ms. Lisa Herzog, Ms. Laura Lapidus, Ms. Irene Reitano, and Ms. Jan Rogers. Their wonderful effort produced a colorful and most enjoyable evening for all attendees. Shabbat Shalom and kol tuv,
