5th Grade's Letters to Gilad Shalit's Parents

5th graders write letters to Gilad Shalit’s Parents:  Ever since Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas, on June 26th, 2006, the SSDS 5th graders have been counting his days of captivity and have been praying for his release.  This week, the 5th graders read in Hebrew the children’s book, “The Shark and the Fish,” that Gilad wrote when he was a boy.  They then wrote, edited and sent beautifully composed letters of encouragement to his parents.  Part of the hidden curriculum is teaching compassion and “stick-with-it-ness.”  For 2,000 years, we did not forget Zion.  We’re certainly not going to abandon the Shalit family after 1,314 days of captivity.
