5th Grade's Letters to Gilad Shalit's Parents

5^th graders write letters to Gilad Shalit’s Parents:  Ever since Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas, on June 26^th, 2006, the SSDS 5^th graders have been counting his days of captivity and have been praying for his release.  This week, the 5^th graders read in Hebrew the children’s book, “The Shark and the Fish,” that Gilad wrote when he was a boy.  They then wrote, edited and sent beautifully composed letters of encouragement to his parents.  Part of the hidden curriculum is teaching compassion and “stick-with-it-ness.”  For 2,000 years, we did not forget Zion.  We’re certainly not going to abandon the Shalit family after 1,314 days of captivity.
