Dear Schechter Parents,

Welcome back to the 2010-2011 school year!!

The Parent Association was very busy on the first day back to school - providing apples and honey as is customary on Rosh Hashanah to all the children in the elementary school. Welcome packs were also distributed to each child. The welcome packs had an acrostic poem using SSDS as a guide, printed pencils and some snacks.

We would like to thank our new Holiday treats coordinator, Karen Himelfarb for organizing the apples and honey team and distributing the treats in the elementary school. The volunteer team was amazing and was comprised of the following parents and siblings: Heather and Julia Cetina, Susan Adhami, Pamela Lerner, Stacey Leeds, Dr. Beth Weinstein Kohler, Darryl Lapidus, Michelle Shallat, Jamie Altman, Miriam Yakoby, Sherry Fishler, and Edgar Weingarten. It was lovely to see all the children's sweet smiles on the first day of school upon delivering the treats.

The Gan was provided with a pizza lunch from the PA after school at their stay and play in the playground.

We would like to thank Carolyn and Alan Landes for graciously hosting the PA social at their home in Roslyn Heights. Their daughter, Alexi was especially helpful and enthusiastic during the event. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful dairy catered meal. Thanks to all of you who attended.

We would like to wish a Shana Tova U'Metukah, a Sweet New Year, to the entire Schechter community!!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

* FAMILY FUN DAY – Sunday, September 19th from 12-3. Join us for a BBQ, Chez-zam bouncers, and lots of fun. In conjunction with the new directer of recruitment, Helen Mor, we are inviting all PA members to bring prospective families. All non PA members are also welcome to bring prospective famililes but must pay at the door. Come dunk members of our dedicated staff including Rabbi Herrnson, Eileen Bohrer, & Dr. Dolgin.

* PA Succah Dinner - Tuesday, September 28th. Details to follow.

*Hiddur Mitzvah Project - Sunday, October 17th in Jericho. Come make beautiful Judaica with your children from The Gary Rosenthal Center. See flyer and order form below. Due date for orders is September 17th!

* CHALLAH – if you are interested in signing up for our challah program there is still time. See the attached form for more information.
